Important non-destructive test methods for the condition assessment, inspection and monitoring of civil engineering structures are discussed. These methods that are based on the similar physical principles (e.g. electrical resistance measurements, ultrasound, hardness, electromagnetic techniques) and are used for wood and concrete in a comparable way. The course the addresses the fundamentals for condition assessment of structures in wood and reinforced concrete.

Course Content

Methods for the non-destructive characterization and testing of wood and reinforced concrete are presented in introductory lectures. Afterwards selected commercial devices are presented and can be used by the students in practical sessions. If possible, an excursion is organized.

Students have to give a short presentation on a topic related to the course and deliver a written report.
